NOVA SCOTIA, June 2019 – It may still be nearly six months until Christmas. But Nova Scotia’s Fox Harb’r Resort already has the ultimate getaway to get you prepped for 2019’s festive season.
From November 8-10, 2019, Fox Harb’r celebrates Spirit of Christmas, a stylish, new holiday food, drink and décor weekend created for those who can’t wait for the holidays, and those who want to make sometimes stressful December more fuss-free and fun.
Fox Harb’r Spirit of Christmas starts with a Friday night “ugly sweater” welcome reception, then wraps up helpful fireside chats by celebrated East Coast chefs, a farm-to-table “Farmers’ Market” lunch, nightly themed parties, Cocktails & Carols, grown-up photos with Santa, plus even more add-on options like a horse-drawn wagon ride, or spa treatments like a hot stone massage with seasonal essential oils, for that cozy glow.
Restaurateur and four-time cookbook author Craig Flinn, of Halifax’s Chives Canadian Bistro, Two Doors Down and popular titles like “Out of New Nova Scotia Kitchens” and “Fresh and Frugal,” tops the Spirit of Christmas guest presenter list, hosting and amping up Friday night’s family-style turkey dinner sponsored by Turkey Farmers of Nova Scotia. Other Spirit of Christmas culinary experts include “Kilted Chef” Alain Bossé, PEI Chef of the Year 2017 Irwin MacKinnon, and originally Swiss import Roland Glauser, owner of Charlotte Lane Cafe.
Decor and interiors pro Christine Dovey, best-recognized as the design expert from CBC TV’s Steven and Chris, brings her stylist’s skill to common Christmas decorating dilemmas including a wreath-making session and easy, elegant holiday tablescapes. Dovey’s previous collaborations include IKEA, Home Depot and KitchenAid.
“Decide on a holiday colour scheme or theme and what events or traditions matter most to you early on. That’s a great first step to streamline all your holiday prep,” Dovey recommends.
“Then plan ahead, keep lists in your notebook or phone, and think about re-purposing. Getting prepared helps you enjoy your set-up as well as actual holiday events.”
Dovey’s easy-to-pull-together but customizable mindset is an approach that infuses the entire Spirit of Christmas workshop and demo line-up, including festive batch cocktails and speedy handmade treats.
“Spirit of Christmas at Fox Harb’r showcases what we all love most about the holidays, in a magical place filled with Christmas trees and Nova Scotia ocean views,” says resort president Kevin Toth “This is time to get together with your partner, best friends or a favourite family member, before things get hectic. Give yourself a head start on making this Christmas feel just that little bit simpler and more special.”
And because the real spirit of Christmas is about giving, this new Fox Harb’r event weekend culminates in Light it Up, a dine-around-the-resort gala dinner benefitting the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
GET READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS The complete Fox Harb’r Spirit of Christmas package includes two-nights’ suite accommodation, two days of festive breakfast, Friday and Saturday dinner events, Saturday’s farm-to-table lunch, all Saturday workshops, demos and fireside chats from $850 per person, based on double occupancy.
