Lucky Bee Homestead is a small farm in Murray Harbour North owned by Sabine and Michael Schoenknecht.
Sabine and Michael both grew up in Germany where the tradition was to grow and preserve food. So when they moved to the Island they started to bake their own bread and make jams, pickles, Sauerkraut and canned the vegetables they grew in their garden.
Making their own delicious food soon grew into a business.
Sabine and Michael Schoenknecht produce gourmet “MustArt” the old traditional way. They stone-grind the whole seed and leave the oil in it for the beneficial health effects. Then they let the mustard ferment and ripe. It develops its own unique flavour and is also probiotic. Right now, they have 20 different flavours, from a dijon style mild mustard, a mustard with Sydney Stout from the PEI Brewing Company, to a spicy “Volcano” which will clear your respiratory tract! They also have fresh mustard pasta available at the Charlottetown Market.
We tried their MustArt Peanut flavour on hamburgers and sausages and it was delicious!
Lucky Bee Homestead produces everything with 100% solar energy and tries to avoid plastic as much as possible. They also encourage their customers to bring jars back for a refund.
They use as many organic, fresh, sourced-from-the-Island ingredients as possible, including Cheverie Farm, Doucette Organics, Alexander Vegetables, Ella’s Forest, Schurman Family Farm, and more, because that is what they believe in.
Their other products include Sauerkraut and 17 different kinds of vinegar. It’s all probiotic, super healthy and super yummy! They have Chutneys and raw Honey from their own bees, and they make low sugar jams, with 42% and with 30% organic cane sugar, because it is much healthier. You have more fruit so more flavour! Plus, they have very uncommon flavours like Spruce Tip Jelly, Zucchini, Pineapple Jam and a Sweet Explosion (Strawberry with Cocoa and Chili). They even make no sugar added jams and jellies with a special stevia (no strong aftertaste).
